My father, Mr. Elia George Adranly (was borne in 1914, died in 2002); finished his high school at Bishop Gobat School in mount Zion in 1932 (presently the school is used by Jerusalem University College). Then served in the Jordanian army for few years, under the rule of his Majesty King Abdullah the first. Then studied Optics in the School of Optics, London. In 1942, My father started working in the oldest optical shop in east Jerusalem at that time, called “Damiani”; it was founded in the Ottoman period in 1895 (closed in 1988). It was situated in the Old City of Jerusalem, Christian Quarter Rd. No. 34. Then my father opened a shop in Haifa in 1946; but few months before the 1948 war, he closed the shop; due to the difficult political situation, and the lack of safety and stability of the life there. The streets were filled with continuos armed conflict between Jews, Arabs, and the British government.
